Poppy Places Trust
The Places of Remembrance project is about ensuring we never forget New Zealanders who were on overseas service.
The Places of Remembrance project is about ensuring we never forget New Zealanders who were on overseas service dating back to the Boer War in South Africa. It is about a place where our heroes contributions and their stories are linked to their physical monuments (e.g. Street Signs) via the simple placement of a poppy.
The genesis of the project is in knowing that many of our street names and places are directly related to people and events from overseas military history. These details are often only known to a small amount and shrinking number of Kiwis.
By using the Poppy (an internationally known symbol) to mark these places, those that pass by will see the Poppy and be reminded every time of our heroes. The Poppy Places website will be the custodian of these stories for generations to come.
The Poppy Places Trust wanted a website to introduce their brand as well as to gain recognition before their official site and programme of work is launched next year.
What we did
Signify designed a dynamic website honouring the significance of the topic's history and creating a user experience that makes exploring Poppy Places easy, intuitive and informative. We built a static HTML site using Bootstrap. We worked with the trustees to build this site pro bono as we wanted to support the Poppy Places trust and feel we are doing our part to support the WW100 commemorations.
We also Launched Poppy Places with the .nz designation. We believe it was one of the first new websites to launch with www.poppyplaces.nz.
